BOLAND RUGBY UNION STATEMENT ON INCIDENT AT LANGEBAAN RFC MATCH | 15 March 2025

The Boland Rugby Union is deeply saddened by the tragic and untimely passing of an individual during the club rugby match between Langebaan RFC and St. Helena Bay RFC on Saturday, 15 March 2025, at the Langebaan Sports Ground.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time. Our thoughts are also with the players, officials, and spectators who were present.

Boland Rugby Union is working closely with all relevant authorities as an investigation into the incident is underway. We remain committed to the safety and well-being of everyone involved in our sport at all Boland Club rugby venues across this prestigious rugby union.

Boland Rugby Union President, Mr Bennie van Rooi, expressed his condolences, stating: “This is a heartbreaking moment for the rugby community. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the deceased. We trust that the necessary processes will take place, and we will offer our full support where needed.”
